July 14, 1939 – November 3, 2015
It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Peter, aged 76 years, on Tuesday November 3, 2015 at the Grace Hospital, Winnipeg with his family by his side.
Peter is survived by his wife, Gail McIvor, daughter Angela (Gordon) Dyck, son Jonathan (Jennifer), as well as his grandchildren Vanessa and Ryan Dyck, and Camille, Maeryn and Senna Rempel.
Peter will also be missed by Gail's son Bruce (Darlene) McIvor and their children Owen, Evan and Austen.
He was predeceased by his first wife Shirley (nee Kroeker), parents Peter F. and Aganetha (Hiebert) Rempel, sister Dora Dyck, and brother Ben Rempel.
Peter was an ardent lover of sport. His greatest passions included hockey, baseball and golf. Both playing and watching sports gave him immense pleasure. He was a dedicated University of Manitoba Bison fan and took great pride in watching his son coach and enjoyed working the goal light at Max Bell home games.
Peter was recently inducted into the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame, along with his Steinbach Millers baseball team from 1964-1969. He was deeply honoured to receive this award this past summer. Peter loved playing ball with his friends, as well as pick-up hockey at the Ice plex. Being active was a central part of Peter's life. Many great days were spent on the golf course with friends and family, and he imparted his love of golf to his wife, Gail, in his later years.
Dad loved his family and wanted to know that the people he cared for were taken care of. He often inquired after others, and wanted the best for those in his life.
Peter and Gail loved to travel and had many memorable trips during the last nine years. Highlights included a Mediterranean cruise, a Panama Canal cruise, winters in Phoenix, and time in Hawaii.
The family would like to thank the exceptional nursing team from the ICU and third floor at the Grace Hospital, who cared for dad with compassion and humor during this last week, as well as the doctors overseeing his care. The family also thanks the nurses and staff from CancerCare who helped dad battle over the past many years.
In keeping with Peter’s wishes Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, November 8, 2015 at 1:30 p.m. at the St. Boniface Golf and Country Club 100 Youville Street, Winnipeg.
The family respectfully requests no flowers. If friends so desire, donations in memory of Peter can be made to CancerCare, the Grace Hospital Capital Campaign or the Mennonite Central Committee.
