(NEE LAFRANCE)
In loving memory of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, we announce the peaceful passing of Fernande Tkachyk, at the age of 95 years, on Friday, Oct. 30, 2015.
Born in St Pierre-Jolys on Oct. 12, 1920, Fern was predeceased by her parents Adelard and Lucia Lafrance, sisters Sr Claire Lafrance, Laure (Achille) Tauffenbach, Elaine (Rene) Gay, as well as her loving husband of 55 years, Nick Tkachyk.
Nick and Fern were married in 1944. They started their life together on their family farm in Dufrost and eventually moved into the town of St Pierre-Jolys in 1957 where she spent many years as a cook at the St Pierre Hospital until her retirement. Fernande also volunteered at the local “Boutique” used clothing shop in her spare time.
Always preferring to not be the centre of attention, she’d much rather be catering to everyone else’s needs, never wanting to burden anyone. Even to the very end when she lost her speech and mobility over the last few years, she would always be the model patient.
Our deepest gratitude for the excellent care she received most recently at the St Pierre Repos Jolys and Health Centre as well as prior time at the Chalet Malouin Care Home in St Malo.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Norm (Jeanne), Louise (Ron) Musick, George (Diane) and Ted (Linda), along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A time of celebration for Fernande’s life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 11 a.m. at the St Pierre Roman Catholic Church with Father Patrice Kasonga presiding.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the De Salaberry Hospital Guild, Box 55, St Pierre-Jolys, MB, R0A 1V0.
Rest in peace now Ma. We will always love and remember you.
