ED (ERDMAN) WIEBE
June 18, 1934-August 26, 2015

On Wednesday, August 26, 2015, Ed (Erdman) Wiebe joined our Mom to sit at the feet of Jesus. He passed peacefully surrounded by his family at Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach.

Ed was born near Grunthal, Manitoba on June 18, 1934 to Jacob and Agenetha Wiebe and spent his early childhood years in the Grunthal area. At age 14, the family moved briefly to Paraguay before returning to Manitoba. Ed experienced many losses as a young man including his parents and three siblings. As the family expanded with step-parents, the sense of family remained strong. In later years, Ed also experienced the loss of his step-parents and three more siblings and he took on many responsibilities as the oldest.

Dad accepted Christ as a young adult and his involvement with the church led him to many opportunities in later years. It was here he and our Mom realized their love for each other and they were married on May 19, 1957. Their love for each other was truly a wonderful and enduring love story as they walked hand in hand through their many years of family, ministry, community and most importantly their life journey together. It was his prayer that he would live long enough to see his children grow up and his and Mom’s wish that they could end their journey together. God mercifully granted him both.

Dad spent many years in ministry, including thirty-five years with the Spencer quartet, singing, visitation, and pastoring in several congregations, always encouraging and uplifting those he ministered to. He felt led by God to minister to those who needed support, never giving up, and always welcoming the next opportunity with enthusiasm.

Ed was also a committed community person, serving on Boards and Committees. He was thrilled recently when he was invited to give the invocation at the opening of the new Steinbach Credit Union in honor of his years of service to that institution.

Most importantly Dad was a wonderful husband, dad, grandpa and great-grandpa. He was a man of principle who loved his family and guided us with unconditional love and support. He was an example of faith, courage, compassion and commitment that we can all claim as an enduring legacy.

Ed is survived by his daughter Bev, son Ken and Marilyn (Barrett and Jamie-Lee Wiebe, Tristan and Ainsley; Amber and Kevin Beaudette, Kallan and Keagan; and Byron Wiebe and Joey Armstrong), daughter Naomi and Greg Gerbrandt, (Jennifer and Tim Froese, Jacob and Henry; Adam and Sarah Gerbrandt, Isaac and Ruth; and Jessica) daughter Wilma and John Wiebe (Luke and Anna); daughter Mavis and Peter Noteltiers (Julienna, Max, and Suzanna); son Rod and Evy Wiebe (Emma, Julia, Katrina and Samuel); grandson Paul and Jody Milburn (Zane and Holly); four sisters and three brothers.

Ed was predeceased by his beloved wife Peggy on May 2, 2015, grandson Micheal Gerbrandt and great-grandson Damian Beaudette.

Viewing will be held on Sunday, August 30, 2015 from 7:00 -7:30 p.m. with a short devotional following at 7:30 p.m. at the Emmanuel Evangelical Free Church, 360 McKenzie Avenue, Steinbach, Manitoba. There will also be a viewing at the church prior to the funeral service.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, August 31, 2015 at 10 a.m. at the Emmanuel Evangelical Free Church, 360 McKenzie Avenue, Steinbach. Interment to follow at Heritage Cemetery, with lunch at the church following the interment.

Should friends so desire, donations in memory of Ed may be made to CancerCare Manitoba.
