RUBEN REIMER
December 5, 1924 – August 17, 2015

Ruben Reimer passed away peacefully following a stroke and brief illness at Bethesda Place Personal Care Home in Steinbach on Monday, August 17, 2015, at the age of 90 years.

Ruben will be remembered by daughter Rose (John) Rycroft of Victoria and their children Bonnie (Ken) Padgett and Scott; son Donald (Julie) of Edmonton and their children Kristine, Kathleen, Joe and Jessica; and son Jamie (Françoise) of Belgium and their children Charlotte, Lucy, and Nicolas; and two great-grandchildren. Also remembering Ruben will be his siblings Almon, Joel (Nettie), Mary (Peter) Reimer, Arnold (Shirley); several in-laws, and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his first wife Tina (nee Reimer); his second wife Betty (nee Loewen); and his brother Eno.

Ruben Johan Reimer was born on December 5, 1924, in Blumenort, Manitoba, where he attended school. After working briefly at the Plett factory in Blumenort, Ruben began his life-long career in the trucking industry: first, at age 16, working for merchant P.J. Loewen in Blumenort, as co-owner of Loewen Transfer in Rosenort, as a dock worker for Reimer Express in Winnipeg, and finally, for 27 years, as driver for Penner International at the Ford Motor Company parts warehouse in Brampton, Ontario.

As a young man, Ruben was baptized and became a member of the Blumenort Kleine Gemeinde, and at the time of his passing was a member of the Evangelical Fellowship Church in Steinbach.

Ruben married Tina Reimer in 1946, and after Tina died in 1985, he married Betty Loewen of Winnipeg. Betty passed away in 2012. After a month-long visit to see Rose and her family for Christmas, Ruben returned home, only to suffer a stroke in February, 2013, which left him unable to live independently. After a stay in Morris Hospital waiting for a nursing home placement, Ruben moved to Bethesda Place, his final earthly home.

The family expresses appreciation to the staff of Bethesda Place for their many kindnesses, dedication and professionalism in caring for Ruben, especially during his final illness.

The funeral service was held on Monday, August 24, 2015 at 11:00 a.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, with interment at Steinbach Heritage Cemetery.

If friends so desire, donations in memory of Ruben may be made to the Mennonite Central Committee, 134 Plaza Drive; Winnipeg, MB R3T 5K9.
