Jacob (Jake) Bartel passed away at the Bethesda Hospital on August 3, 2015 after a short illness.
Jake was born in Kleefeld on August 25, 1917, the fifth child of Dietrich Bartel and Helena Klassen. In 1950, he married Mary Kehler and together they served in Northern Manitoba under the Northern Canada Evangelical Mission. Returning to Steinbach, he worked at several jobs before entering the career he enjoyed most as book-keeper with Shell Oil. Even more, he enjoyed his 15 year voluntary career with the Canadian Sunday School Mission that ranged from being a board member, to managing camp maintenance, to planning and preparing crafts for all the Manitoba camps.
Jake is survived by 4 children: Allan (Helen), Judy (Bert), Wilbert (Brenda), and Gordon (Luella), 7 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife Mary.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, August 8, at 10:00 a.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, with interment at Heritage Cemetery. Viewing will be at the chapel prior to the service.
