CORNELIUS (Neil) FUNK

Surrounded by family, our Dad and Grandpa was reunited with Mom in heaven on July 28, 2015.

Dad leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Debbie and Karen (Derek) Gross; and two granddaughters Kalene and Megan. He is also survived by sisters: Mary (Cornie) Martens, Margaret (Ernie) Martens, Erna (Neil) Martens, Linda (Jerry) Thiessen, Betty (Dave) Fehr, and brothers: Abe (Mary), Jake (Anne), and Peter; as well as most of Mom’s family and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife Grace and his parents, Peter and Elizabeth Funk.

Dad was born February 10, 1945 in Randolph, Manitoba. He married Grace Barkman on November 9, 1963 in Steinbach. They moved to Winnipeg early in their married life before returning to Steinbach, living in and around the area for the rest of their married life. After Mom’s death in 2007, Dad continued to live in their last home until 2014 when he purchased a condo at Stone Creek Courts. Unfortunately he was not able to enjoy his new home much as illness took over and he spent a lot of time in hospital.

Dad enjoyed fishing and camping, spending many weekends at the lake with Mom. He also wore many hats throughout his working career including school bus driver, mechanic, farmer, and truck driver.

Those who knew Dad remember the mischievous smile he so readily gave. Even when he was experiencing great pain, he generally kept his sense of humour.

We as a family would like to thank all those who helped during Dad’s illness including the wonderful staff of CancerCare Manitoba, Home Care, Palliative Care and especially the staff at the Bethesda Hospital.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, July 31, 2015 at the Steinbach CMC, 479 Hanover St., Steinbach, MB at 1:30 p.m. The burial will follow at the Heritage Cemetery, Steinbach, MB.
