Peacefully, on June 27, 2015 at the Bethesda Hospital, at the age of 70, Mary was called Home.
Mary is survived by her loving husband, Martin; children: Wilf, Wilma (Grant), Veronika (Craig), and Ernie (Joy); grandchildren: Shelby (Gavin), Burke, Sydney, Sebastian, Luke, Kara, Elizabeth, and Jenson; and siblings: Jakob, Gertruda, Anna, Tina, Lena, Liese, Franz, Andreas, Eva, Martha, and Ruben. She was predeceased by her parents Jakob and Elisabeth; brother Heinrich; and sister Erna. Mary will be missed by her many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Mary was born in Loma Plata, Paraguay on January 23, 1945. She married Martin in Paraguay on July 28, 1965. After starting their family, they moved to Canada permanently in May 1975 and settled in Steinbach. Her family always came first in her life. Mary was quick to make friends, and made many over the years. She enjoyed keeping busy crocheting and sewing clothes. Mary had a fond love of travel and the family made many trips to Europe, Mexico, Jamaica, Brazil, and Bahamas, to name a few. In recent years, they continued to travel to their favourite place, Palm Springs, where they had made many friends. She enjoyed spending many summers in Kenora, and at their cabin at Falcon Lake. Mary loved her grandchildren dearly and was always quick to share stories and pictures of them. Throughout Mary’s illness, she always kept a positive attitude. She had a strong spirit that will be greatly missed.
The family would like to thank the nurses, doctors and staff at Bethesda Hospital as well as those that supported Mary at home.
The viewing will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at 7:00 p.m., with a devotional at 7:30 p.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 162 Hwy 52 W, Steinbach, and at the church prior to the service.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, July 3, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Steinbach Mennonite Church, 345 Loewen Blvd, Steinbach, MB, with burial to follow at Heritage Cemetery, Steinbach.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Maria may be made to The Bethesda Foundation.
