LORRAINE KALLERT
September 5, 1930 - June 27, 2015

We are sad to announce that Lorraine Kallert passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at the Bethesda Regional Health Centre in Steinbach, Manitoba.

Lorraine and her life will be remembered by her children: Brian (Lyn Arikado), Bradley (Pearl), and Bonnie (Kim Dermody); grandchildren Brady and Kody; sisters: Lily, Evelyn, Irene (Jack), Ruth (Lawrence); and sisters-in-law Lilly and Irene.

She is predeceased by her much loved husband Roland; parents Adolph and Hulda; siblings: Willy, Harry, and Benny: and sisters-in-law Hertha and Wilma.

Mom was born in the RM of St. Clements, Manitoba. Although there were many difficult times, we mainly heard of the enjoyment she had growing up in Stead, the many school races she competed in (she said she was the fastest!), the dances, the hard work, and the fun she had with her siblings. They were a close knit group which continued on through the years with daily phone calls between her sisters.

Mom and Dad married in 1951. They spent time in Winnipeg when Roland worked at the Headingley Correctional Institute but soon moved to Dad’s home farm north of Arborg, Manitoba.

Always a hard worker, Mom amazed us at how she could manage a huge garden, bake fresh bread every week, make great big meals from scratch, keep the house spotless, and still be an active part of the farming process - from milking cows (nervously), gathering eggs, driving the grain trucks (nervously) - all the while having the three of us underfoot.

Mom and Dad moved to Mitchell, MB. in 1988. When Dad passed away in 1995, Mom lived there on her own until she moved to her condo in Steinbach in 2013. During their time in Mitchell her grandchildren Brady and Kody were born, and Mom was so in love with them. She was always proud of their accomplishments and loved their visits and phone calls.

Until she got sick, Mom was an adamant walker and was known for her speed. She was friendly to everyone she met, and would welcome newcomers into Mitchell with a batch of her amazing ginger snap cookies. Anyone who knew Mom knew that she took the phrase “cleanliness is next to godliness” a little too close to heart and as such was constantly cleaning. She often said someday I am just going to sit down and rest.

Rest now Mudder - no more pain, no more worry. We will miss you and love you always.

We invite friends and family to join us on Friday, July 3, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 162 Hwy 52 W, Steinbach, Manitoba, to remember mom and her life.
