(nee FRIESEN)
On Saturday, May 2, 2015, Peggy (Margaret) Wiebe (nee Friesen) went into the presence of her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, at home, surrounded by her family, one week before her 80th birthday.
Peggy was born in Horndean, Manitoba on May 10, 1935 and grew up on a farm near Grunthal, MB. She was very close to her mother and enjoyed helping with farm and household chores.
Peggy was baptized upon confession of her faith at Spencer Bergthaler Church in 1952 and married the love of her life, Ed Wiebe on May 19, 1957. The newlyweds then moved to Winnipeg where Peggy worked at a sewing factory until the children began to arrive. Peggy always loved sewing! Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren all have blankets, quilts, pajamas, dresses, purses, and bags that she lovingly made and her family hold dear.
From Winnipeg, Peggy and Ed moved to Niverville where Peggy spent her days raising her growing family. Later they moved to a chicken farm near Grunthal and by 1970 they were raising six children.
Peggy’s faith in her Saviour and her sense of ministry touched many lives. Her ready smile and generous gentle spirit let you know she thought you were important and her big heart made room for friendship across generations. Peggy was a steady companion and support to her husband Ed and loved to be at home caring for her family. Peggy’s great joy was when her family was gathered around a table for a meal that she had prepared.
In 1994, Peggy and Ed sold the farm and moved to Steinbach and began retired life there. Almost two years ago, Peggy and Ed moved to Bridge Park Manor, during which time she formed many friendships with fellow residents and staff alike.
In addition to her beloved husband Ed Wiebe, Peggy leaves to grieve her: daughter Bev Wiebe; son Ken and Marilyn Wiebe (Barrett and Jamie Lee Wiebe, Tristen and Ainsley; Amber and Kevin Beaudette, Kallan and Keagan; Byron Wiebe and Joey Armstrong); daughter Naomi and Greg Gerbrandt (Jennifer and Tim Froese, Jacob; Adam and Sarah Gerbrandt, Isaac and Ruth; and Jessica Gerbrandt); daughter Wilma and John Wiebe (Luke and Anna); daughter Mavis and Peter Noteltiers (Julienna, Max, and Suzanna); son Rod and Evy Wiebe (Emma, Julia, Katrina, and Samuel); and grandson Paul and Jody Milburn (Zane and Holly); two brothers and two sisters.
Peggy was predeceased by grandson, Michael Gerbrandt, and one great-grandson, Damian Beaudette.
Viewing will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2015 at 7:00 p.m., with a devotional to follow at 7:30 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 162 Hwy 52 W, Steinbach, MB. There will also be a time of viewing at the church prior to the funeral service.
The funeral service for Peggy Wiebe will be held on Friday, May 8, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Emmanuel Evangelical Free Church, 360 McKenzie Ave, Steinbach, MB. Burial will follow at Heritage Cemetery, Steinbach, MB.
Should friends so desire, donations in Peggy's memory may be made to Cancer Care Manitoba.
