MARIA KRASNIUK (nee Gigolyk)
September 24, 1931 – April 11, 2015
Peacefully, in the presence of her family, our loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend Maria Krasniuk was safely escorted to heaven by her angels while at Bethesda Regional Health Care Centre on April 11, 2015.
Maria was predeceased by her parents Nick and Dora Gigolyk, husband Steve, son Johnny, one sister, two brothers, nieces and nephews, and her dear cousin Elsie Panasiuk.
She is survived by her son Maurice, daughter-in-law Doreen and her mother Kathy, granddaughter Arlene (Chad) and great-grandchildren Jessica (Scott) and expected baby Stephen, Amber, Alyssa, Zachary, and Brayden, granddaughter Colleen (Darrell) and great-grandchildren Kristen and Owen, and grandson Jason (Laura).
Maria also leaves to mourn one sister and three sisters-in-law and their families, along with many nieces and nephews and beloved friends.
Maria grew up in the Caliento/Lonesand area with two brothers and two sisters. On June 12, 1948, she married her husband of 56 years, Steve Krasniuk. Together they were blessed with two sons, Maurice and Johnny. Steve and Mary worked hard to provide a good life for their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. They also opened their home and hearts to care for many children in need.
Maria has always had a deep desire to share with others, in any way she could. Visitors were always greeted with love, a meal, and a kind and compassionate heart. Her strength of character and solid resolve showed throughout all of her life. It didn’t matter whether she was making bread, milking cows, helping haul wood, or caring for the garden – she always had time for her family.
Mom loved being outside planting flowers, gardening, picking berries, playing with her kittens, and watching the birds come to her bird feeders. It was always a great treat for her to watch as wildlife passed through her yard.
She also enjoyed travelling with her son Johnny. Together they visited her family in B.C. and Saskatchewan. She often spoke about the great memories made on those trips and the beautiful mountains she had seen.
Babka loved Jesus. She was a faithful prayer warrior for her family. She would always tell us that she was praying for every one of us every night. Maria was baptized in the spring of 2014. Towards the end of her time with us, she went to great effort to bless each one of us and, as usual, was so concerned that we would be alright when she was gone. She longed to see Jesus and prayed for it daily during this time. We are so happy that her heartfelt prayers have been answered and she is now in the presence of the Lord.
Thank you to all the doctors, nurses, and health care aides for providing loving care, kindness, and patience to Maria and her family during her difficult battle with cancer. We would like to offer a heartfelt thank you to the unknown donors who supplied for her life-sustaining transfusions. Special thanks to all the friends and family that provided love and care to our family at this time.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, April 17, 2015 at 12:30 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 162 Hwy 52 West, Steinbach, MB, with viewing prior to the service. Pastor Ernie Frechette will be officiating. Burial will follow at Ridgeland Cemetery in Sundown.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mary may be made to The Bethesda Foundation, 316 Henry St., Steinbach, MB, R5G 0P9.
