MARGARET TOEWS
Margaret Toews, our dear Mother and Grandmother daughter of John G and Agenetha Warkentin, was born on February 19,1920. She quietly passed on to her long awaited reward, on April 9th, 2015 at The Maplewood Manor in Steinbach Manitoba. She reached the age of 95 years.
Mom enjoyed her childhood as a younger child of a large family. She told of happy times with her parents, brothers and sisters. Losing her mother in her early teens, left deep impressions on her which she often recounted to us.
She found forgiveness of her sins at age 14, receiving a peace that grew ever more precious to her as she got older. She was baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite in November of 1935.
Finding her love in Edward G. Toews, they were married November 23, 1941. To them were born five sons and two daughters. Dad and Mom opened their hearts to Evelyn Esau, Dad's niece who made her home with us from the age of 13. She passed away in April of 2014.
Dad and Mom together with their family moved from Greenland, Manitoba to St. Marys, Ontario in 1960. With her resilient nature, Mom took up the challenge, enjoying her new friends, neighbours and the new congregation. When Dad died in 1980 after only 39 short years of marriage, Mother deeply missed Dad's loving companionship.
She filled her time with visiting her children, entertaining company, many of whom were her nieces and nephews she loved. She enjoyed and found friendships in teachers, and others who needed a place to board. Her children, grandchildren and many others benefited from her love of sewing and piecing quilts. Keeping her yard and flowers was a joy to her. Going to grandma's house was always a pleasure.
The grandchildren spent many happy hours with grandma – playing games, sliding down her hill and sitting in the basement around her woodstove that she so carefully tended.
Many who met her felt a ray of warmth from her lovely and sunny personality. A difficult time of her life was when we became aware of her failing memory. As a family we felt it best to admit her to Maplewood Manor in March of 2006 at Steinbach, Manitoba. This became her new home. Here she was surrounded by many kind and loving caregivers. Our hearts are full of gratitude for the warmth she could experience during these years. Even so we knew her heart longed for her Heavenly Home and are thankful God released her.
She will be missed by her family, Paul and Rose, of St. Marys, Ontario, Robert and Sally, of Kingsville, Ontario, Elvera and Melvin Penner of Rosenort, Manitoba, Fred and Barb, Chester and Lois of St. Marys, Ontario, Russ and Ellen of Moorefield, Ontario, Rosemarie and Larry Loewen of Berwick, Nova Scotia, 37 grandchildren, 104 great-grandchildren and 3 great great-grandchildren. Three great great-grandchildren have preceded her. Mom was the last living member of her family.
The visitation service will be held on Monday, April 13, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Mapleview Mennonite Church, St. Marys, ON.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, April 13, 2015 at 2:30 p.m. at Mapleview Mennonite Church, St. Marys, ON.
