August 15, 1922 – April 4, 2015
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Alexander Mielke Fast on April 4, 2015 at the age of 92. He was the beloved husband of Emily and cherished father of Bill (Jeannette), Alex (Annette), Fred (Rose), Emily (Murray), Karen (Ron), and Carl (Heather) and proud Opa of Greg (Sheri), Jason (Jocelyn), Alison (Cam), Stephen (Sherisse), Matthew (Darcy), Matthew L., Colin L., Nicholas, Elena (Brock), Ryan, Jane, Christopher, Kyla and Joshua. He also had 12 great-grandchildren. He is survived by his brother Edward (Helene) and sister Kaethe Wiebe (Neil) and Emily’s family: Betty (John), Velma (Stan), Helene, Dave (Hildy), and Friedel (Kurt).
Dad married Emily, the love of his life on August 19, 1950 and they enjoyed 64 wonderful years together. Dad was an avid sportsman and this enjoyment of sports carried through to his children. He also had deep roots in the community and served on the Niverville chamber, town council and as a school trustee for many years. He was proud to call Niverville his home. Dad’s faith was evident in all facets of his life and he was actively involved in many roles within his church, with a special love of singing in the male choir. His strong faith in God provided him with the “peace that transcends all understanding” in his final days. Dad passed away at the Steinbach hospital and he always appreciated the great care the doctors and nurses at St. Pierre and Steinbach provided him – especially the milkshakes. We will miss trying to win a debate with him (and never winning) and his cheesy rhymes he thought were funny.
A celebration of Dad’s life will be held on Thursday, April 9, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Niverville Fourth Avenue Bible Church, Niverville, MB. Ash interment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Gideon’s Society would be gratefully accepted.
