ROBERT MCLEOD

Robert (Bob) Alan McLeod died in the Whispering Pines Personal Care Home in Vita, Manitoba on March 14, 2015. He was 91.

Robert was born on June 18, 1923 in Norgate, Manitoba to William Irwin and Marion Uldene (Todd) McLeod. He attended the Norgate School through Grade 8.

In December 1942, Bob enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force and was commissioned as Navigator in 1944. He commenced training in England until his air crew was tragically lost on exercise. Bob was repatriated at his own request with Honorable Discharge.

On November 5, 1949 Bob married Donna Pearl Chase from Winnipeg. Their family grew to 8 children and eventually settled in 1960 on a farm north of Sprague. They attended the Full Gospel Mission and served in many church/community musical, teaching and hospitality roles. Bob served as trustee in the Ross L. Gray School. Donna passed away on November 18, 1991. Bob lived on the farm until December 2007 when he moved to his son Paul’s residence in Winnipeg, then to the Senior’s Heritage Centre in Niverville and finally to the Whispering Pines Nursing Home in Vita.

Bob is pre-deceased by his parents, wife Donna, sister Jean and brother William (Bill). He is survived by 8 children: Uldene (Dennis Heppner); Paul (Eleanore), Beth, Mark, Wes (Kay), Hal, Margie (John Prevost) and Millie (James Caswell). There are also 23 grandchildren and a growing number of great grandchildren. Bob is also survived by his sister Helen, and brothers Albert and Philip.

Robert McLeod’s life will be celebrated publicly at the Vita Funeral Home on Friday, March 20, 2015 at 1:00 pm followed a 3 pm committal service at the Sprague Full Gospel Mission (Golden Branch) Cemetery. A Reception will then take place at 4 pm at the Sprague Community Hall. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Robert’s life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a Charity of your choice.
