1927 – 2015
Tina Peters of Steinbach, passed away at the Bethesda Hospital on Saturday March 7th, 2015 at the age of 87.
She is survived by: her loving daughters Elizabeth (Edward) Hildebrand and their children Davin and Erin Hildebrand, and Katie (Richard) Unger and their children: Ivon and Heather Funk, Cherise and Marvin Stoesz, Nikki and Kyle Dyck and step children Jake and Charlene Sacher, Amanda and Alan Klippenstein and Amy Unger; as well as many great-grandchildren and her very dear close sister Nellie Zacharias.
She was predeceased by: her husband, Henry Peters, in May 2006; her parents Johann and Elizabeth Krause; three brothers and one sister.
Tina was born June 17th , 1927 in Silberfeld, Manitoba just south of Landmark where she lived with her family till she was married. Henry Peters first saw Tina at a wedding they both attended and he couldn’t stop thinking about her. After sometime, they started dating. When they decided to get married, Henry took Tina to The Bay in Winnipeg where they went for a “special” supper in the café downstairs and then bought her a new suit for their wedding day. Over the years, they often remembered that special day and enjoyed going to Winnipeg for supper. Tina and Henry got married on Nov 25th 1945. Their daughter Elizabeth (Betty) was born on Dec 30th 1946 and after a short time they realized that she was deaf. In 1948, Tina and Henry decided to immigrate to Paraguay with their parents. Both Tina and Henry were very concerned that their deaf daughter would receive an education and Betty started attending school in Fernheim, Chaco. This was very difficult for Tina since her daughter was far away at school for several months at a time. Due to low attendance, the school decided to close and Tina and Henry decided to move back to Canada where a new deaf school was opening in Manitoba. Tina, Henry and daughter Betty returned to Canada in 1958. A second daughter, Katie, was born in 1961. Tina helped to support the family and worked several years at the St Malo sewing factory and then became the cook at the Menno Home in Grunthal where she worked till she retired. Tina loved flowers and in winter, when flowers were scarce, Henry would often buy her roses. Tina’s home cooking and baking is well remembered. Many nieces, nephews and grandchildren mentioned her delicious homemade buns and Sunday dinners when they came to visit her in her final days.
The family would like to express Heartfelt Thanks to the nursing staff at Bethesda Hospital for the wonderful care Tina received during the last 2 weeks she was in hospital. Also, thanks to all those nieces and nephews who came to help and support the family.
