ANNE SOKOLIUK
(nee Kraynyk)
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our Dear Mother, Baba, Great Baba, and sister, Anne Sokoliuk, on March 5th 2015 at Kildonan Personal Care Home, at the age of 94. Mom will be lovingly remembered by her children: Ben Sokoliuk, George(Carol) Sokoliuk, Audrey Sokoliuk, Emil(Jackie) Sokoliuk, and Laurence Dorie(Cathy). Also left to cherish her memory are her grandchildren: Dwayne Sokoliuk, Alan Sokoliuk, Patrick Sokoliuk, Charlene (Colin) Chudley, Michael (Jen) Sokoliuk , Lisa Sokoliuk ,Kevin Naruse, Jolene and Tyler Tease, Emily Sokoliuk, and Cody Sokoliuk, and great-grandchildren: Evan Chudley, Logan Sokoliuk, Addison Naruse, Ava Chudley, Parker Naruse, Ryker and Rowan Sokoliuk, and Maggie and Annie Tease. Mom is also survived by her brothers Bill Kraynyk, Paul Kraynyk (Gladys), sister Margaret Olynyk, sister-in-law Ann Kraynyk, brother-in-law Ed Rozwood and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mom was predeceased by our Dad John Sokoliuk , sons Paul and Orest Sokoliuk, daughters-in-law Mary and Clover Sokoliuk, sisters Mary (John) Muzyka and Olga Rozwood, brothers: John, Mike and Nick Kraynyk, brother-in-law Mike Olynyk and her parents Dmytro and Katarina Kraynyk.
Mom was born on April 16th 1920 in Sundown, Manitoba. She left school at an early age to work on the family farm. Mom and Dad met and later married on June 23rd, 1943. Together they made their home in Sundown and raised their family. During their life together they lived in Pine Falls, Fort Frances, and Transcona but later settled in Sundown. To help provide for her family Mom hoed sugar beets, dug Seneca roots and picked blueberries. Mom always had a large garden and did some mixed farming. Her favourite pass times were bingo, her trips to the casino and playing cards. Mom was an active member of the Holy Ascension Ukrainan Catholic Church and The Ukrainian Catholic Womens’ League for over 50 years. Nobody left Mom’s home hungry she always made sure you had something to eat before you left and she always sent you home with a care package.
The family would like to thank the staff of Kildonan Care Home for their support and compassionate care provided to Mom during her stay.
Prayer Services will be held on Sunday March 8th, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel located at 162 Highway 52 West in Steinbach, Manitoba.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, March 9th, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Ascension Ukrainian Catholic Church in Sundown Manitoba, interment to follow at the Parish Cemetery.
