Betty Schmidtke passed away on February 10, 2015 at Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach, MB at the age of 68.
She is survived by her husband Ken, and two sons Mark (April), Brock (Lisa), two grandchildren, Evan and Natalie, and her siblings: Lillian (Wally) Krebs, Grace Holme, Ron (Mary) Mantie, and Irene Schmidtke; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, first husband, Leonard Betker, sister Joyce in infancy, brothers-in-law Alan Schmidtke and Wilfred Holme, and niece Jillian Mantie.
She was born July 4, 1946 in Steinbach to Emil & Lydia Mantie (nee Borkowsky). She grew up in the Friedensfeld area, attending Friedensfeld School until grade five and then in Steinbach after the passing of her father, when the family moved to Steinbach. When she left school she went to work in Winnipeg.
Betty married Ken on February 16, 1974. Ken’s banking career took her too many communities in Ontario and Manitoba. She enjoyed reading, gardening, walking, curling and the outdoors. In 2005, they retired to Steinbach where they have resided since.
Funeral service for Betty Schmidtke will be held Saturday, February 14, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 465 Henry Street, Steinbach, MB, with viewing at the church prior to the service. Burial will follow at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Hwy 12 South, Steinbach, MB.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Paul’s Church Memorial Fund.
