It is with great sorrow and sadness we announce the sudden passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and sister Florence Nielsen on January 4, 2015.
Florence was predeceased by her parents John and Nellie, husband Ken (Kaj), brothers: Harry, Peter, and William.
She leaves behind to celebrate her life - daughters: Karen (James) Davie, Katherine, Deborah; son James, grandchildren: Valerie, Megan, James, Andrew, Russel, Derek, Keely, and Callie; brothers: Maurice (Margaret) and Bob (Rose); sisters: Rosie Smook and Ann Ostrowsky; sisters-in-law Nellie and Alice, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Florence was born in the farming community of Senkiw. As a young woman she moved to Winnipeg to continue her schooling and find work. There she met and married Ken, her husband of 48 years. Together they raised four children. When her children were young she enjoyed many camping trips. Mom loved learning new things and she took many classes such as flower arranging, picture framing, and Chinese cooking. She also enjoyed her short trips to the U.S., playing cribbage, going to bingo, and socializing with friends and family. Hobbies Mom took up were crochet, reading, solving puzzles, and cooking for her family.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, January 9, 2015 at 10:00 AM at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 162 Hwy 52 W, Steinbach, MB, with reception to follow. Interment will take place at the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Nativity of St. Mary’s Cemetery at Senkiw, Manitoba.
