ÉMILE SMITH
It is with great sadness that the family of Émile Smith wishes to announce his passing at the Ste Anne Hospital on Friday, Oct. 31, 2014, with his family by his side.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Gisele, four children and their families, Denis (Nicole), Danic, Claudie, and Kenzie, Gilbert (Jasmyne), Rene (Genevieve), Kaelee, Declan and their unborn child, Nicole (Wade), Jacob and Natalie. Emile is also survived by his sisters Bertha (d. Robert), Germaine (d. Laurent), Denise (d. Daniel), Yvonne (d. Leon), Agnes (Gordie), Cecile (Grant), and Annette, and brother Gerard (Gloria); sisters-in-law Claudette (Frenchie), Marielle and Marcella (Claude), and brothers-in-law Guy (Jeanne) and Marc (Marilyn); numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends. He was predeceased by his parents Albert and Helene Smith, sister Margaret and brother Lucien (Clara).
Émile was born Sept. 3, 1942 in Fisher Branch, MB. He was a long distance driver for many years until he retired due to health problems. In later years, he enjoyed tinkering in his garage, taking apart motors and appliances, going to auction sales, taking loads to the scrap yard and playing bingo at the casino. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and visiting his daughter and extended family in Australia. His little dog Junior never left his side, always following him everywhere he went.
The family would like to sincerely thank all the staff at Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach and the Ste Anne Hospital for all their care, compassion and support through Dad’s final days.
The memorial service will be held Thursday, Nov. 6 at 1:30 p.m. at Ste Anne Roman Catholic Church, Ste Anne, MB, with a reception to follow at the Seine River Banquet Centre.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cancer Care Manitoba.
