It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of William Tkachuk at eh age of 83, on Monday September 1, 2014 at the Vita Hospital.
William was born October 17, 1930 in Gardenton, MB to parents Kost and Anne (Druzyk) Tkachuk. He was the oldest of 4 children. From Gardenton, the family moved to Menisino, MB in 1943. It is there that William bought his first farm at the age of 17 years old. On June 16, 1951 he married his childhood sweetheart Doreen (Charney). They spent the next 63 years farming in Menisino. William will be lovingly remembered by his wife Doreen, 2 daughters Daphne (Joe) Kowal and Beverly Tkachuk of Winnipeg, and son John (Patricia) Tkachuk of Menisino as well as his 6 grandchildren Jonathon (Angie) Tkachuk, Shane Tkachuk, Jennifer Fosty, Bryan Fosty, Emily Tkachuk and Willow Tkachuk and 2 great grandchildren Cody and Tessia Tkachuk all of which were his pride and joy. He was predeceased by his parents, Brother Johnny in infancy, 2 sisters Jean and Mary and his grandson Christopher Tkachuk.
William was a hard worker, had many stories to tell, was a man of his word and had many accomplishments in his life. He had a successful cattle and grain farm which his son John and daughter-in-law Patricia have taken over. He was the Reeve for the RM of Piney from 1975-1977 and from 1986-1998; Trustee/Board Chairman for Boundary School Division for 24 years; Chairman of the Board Directors of the Vita and District Health Center for many years; as well as member of the Vita & District Health Center Foundation, the Stuartburn-Piney Weed Board, the Piney-Pinecreek Border Airport Committee, the Triple R Community Futures Development and the Crown Lands Committee.
