BETTY REIMER
Betty Reimer was born to Jacob W. and Maria Friesen on December 5, 1930 in Kleefeld, Manitoba. She passed away at Arborg Hospital on August 23, 2014 at the age of 83.
Betty spent her childhood in Kleefeld and graduated from grade 8 at the Gruenfeld school. She was deeply committed to her faith and was baptized at age 15.
On August 28, 1949, Betty married her childhood sweetheart, Abe B. Reimer. Abe and Betty started their married life in Heuboden. They moved to Steinbach in 1955 and to Morweena in 1961. Abe and Betty were blessed with 8 sons and 2 daughters. They were married for nearly 48 years when Abe passed away on May 17, 1997, after a two year battle with cancer.
Betty consistently participated in the church sewing circle and volunteered at the local MCC thrift store. She loved to play table games with her children and grandchildren. In Betty’s widowed years, her commitment to family and community remained central. She blessed each of her grandchildren on their 18th birthday with a handmade quilt or denim blanket. She often visited her brothers and sisters in southern Manitoba and treasured visits with cousins and local friends.
Betty was predeceased by her husband, Abe Reimer; parents, Jacob & Maria Friesen; three brothers, Frank (Adina), Peter, and Albert (Annie); five sisters, Annie (Jake Reimer), Lieza, Mary (Jacob Penner), Dora and Lillian; granddaughter-in-law, Ramona (Earl Reimer); and by Abe’s parents, six brothers and two sisters.
She will be dearly missed by her children, Harold (Marlene), Syd, Rose (Allan Dueck), Janice (Delmer Plett), Tim (Alvina), Cliff (Lucille), Ted (Irene), Bruce (Evalina), Rick (Elaine) and Lyn (Vi); 37 grandchildren and 9 spouses; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Also left to mourn Betty’s passing are sister Helen (Dave Loewen), brothers Jake (Helen), Abe (Mary) and Harvey (Doris); sisters-in-law Elizabeth (Albert Friesen), Annie (Peter Reimer), Elizabeth (Henry Reimer), Helen (Nick Reimer), and Helen (Corny Reimer).
The family thanks all of the friends, community members and home care workers who supported Betty and the family throughout her illness. Thank you also to the staff at Arborg Hospital for their care in Betty’s last days.
Funeral service Thursday, August 28, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Morweena Evangelical Mennonite Church, with interment following in the church cemetery.
