JOHN B FUNK

On Friday, August 22nd, 2014, our much loved and adored father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, John J.B. Funk passed away unexpectedly.

Left to cherish a lifetime of wonderful memories are his two sons, three daughters and their families: Leo (Kathy) children Dale, Nicole (J.P.), and Audra (Corrie); Elayne (Peter Goertzen) children Michele (Rick), and Jobina (Mark); Mel (Margaret) children Maida (Chad), and Marc (Rachelle); Phillis (Eldon Kroeker) children Jordana (Brian), and Derek (fiancée Crystal); Stacey; daughter Jean’s (deceased 2008) children Hayley, Brooke (Tim) and Taylor; and twenty great-grandchildren. He also leaves to mourn sisters: Helen (John), Sara, and Anne (Pete); sister-in-law Eva, many nieces, nephews and good friends.

He was predeceased by our Mom Eva, daughter Jean, two children in infancy: Dennis and Connie; grandson Del, brothers: Abe, Jacob, and Peter; sister Susan; and brothers-in-law Isaac Friesen and Pete Bergen.

Dad was born on May 3rd, 1925 in Grunthal, Manitoba to Jacob and Anna Funk, the third in a family of eight. March 14th, 1948 was a special day as he married our beautiful mother, Eva Martens with whom he shared fifty years of marriage. Dad began his own Backhoe business fifty-four years ago and never fully retired, installing a tank as recently as last year. His love, loyalty and dedication to his family was evident in the way he sacrificed his time and energy. Dad demonstrated his solid faith to his family by the way he lived his life and occasionally with words.

Viewing will be held Friday, August 29th, 2014 from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 162 Highway 52 West, Steinbach, MB. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 30th, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at CMC, 479 Hanover Street, Steinbach, MB. Interment to follow at Heritage Cemetery, Steinbach, MB.
