MARY (KLASSEN) ESAU

Mary Esau passed away on Wednesday, August 20th, 2014 at the age of 89.

Mary leaves to cherish her memory: her children: Ed (Agatha) Esau, Betty (Peter) Klippenstein, Edna (Carl) Penner, Bob (Anita) Esau, Audrey (Glenn) Goertzen, Brenda (Bill) Penner, and Lorna (Russ) Sobering; 19 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, three brothers, two sisters, and two sisters-in-law. She was predeceased by her husband John Esau, one daughter in infancy, one son-in-law, her parents, two sisters, and two brothers.

Mom was born in Lowe Farm on January 16th, 1925. She grew up on the farm and worked hard helping her mom with the younger siblings and chores. She went to school which was located on their farm property and loved to study. Mom had many things she enjoyed in life, some of which included singing in choirs, horses, and working with children. When Mom finished school and left home she went to work for a Jewish Doctor in Winnipeg as a nanny and had many fond memories of that time. Mom accepted Christ as her Saviour at an early age and was baptised on the confession of her faith in Lowe Farm on June 15th, 1943. At the school she attended she also met the love of her life, John Esau, who finished school early (grade 6). They were married on November 14, 1948. After they were married, Mom actually taught Dad to read and write. Together they enjoyed almost 52 years of marriage.

Mom always loved working with children. During her years of ministry she taught Sunday school for approx. 40 years and taught in Awana clubs for approx. 15 years. After her teaching career was done, she came to clubs to listen to children recite verses they had learned. She also learned all the verses as well. Mom has many awards from Awana for her accomplishments.

As a family we will remember Mom for her love for children, and how much they loved her, and for her gracious way of life. She taught us in life to be gracious and thankful and in death to be gracious and non-demanding. Thank you Mom.

Viewing will be held on Sunday, August 24, 2014 at 7:00 p.m., with a devotional at 7:30 p.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 162 Hwy 52 West, Steinbach, MB.
