MARY LISKA

Peacefully and gently, embraced by family, our dearly loved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend passed away at Bethesda Hospital on July 29, 2014.

Born in Czechoslovakia in 1926, in 1948 Mary Ziga left behind her mother and two brothers and immigrated to Canada to reside with her sister in Bradford Ontario. Mom and dad met and married in Toronto in 1949 and came to Steinbach to begin their life together. They raised 3 children while working hard side-by-side on their dairy farm in the Friedensfeld area. After 27 years of farming they retired and built a home in east Steinbach. Traveling with dad, gardening, helping at her church and the Friedensfeld Community Centre kept mom happy and busy for another 27 years. Mom and dad moved to Fernwood Place 7 years ago where mom made many new and special friends.

Diagnosed with cancer in 2010 mom fought a brave but private battle. No one will miss her more than our dad Joseph - her husband of 65 years! So proud to call her mom and missing her are: her daughter Mary (husband Ron Mantie) of Summerside PEI, her daughter Jeanette (husband Bernie Kielich) of Steinbach, and her son John (wife Denine) also of Steinbach. Her grandchildren have so many wonderful memories of their grandmother. She is survived by: grandson Dustin Mantie (partner Tracy Little and their children Jacob, Mollie, and Dane) of Stanley Bridge PEI, her grandson Denton Liska (wife Nicole) of Thompson Mb, granddaughter Breanne Kielich of Winnipeg MB, grandson Josh Liska of Thompson MB, and grandson Riley Kielich (fiancé Kristin Chornoboy) of Steinbach Mb. She was predeceased by her granddaughter Jillian Mantie in 1998.

A celebration of mom’s life was held Monday August 2, 2014 at Christ Our Saviour Catholic Church in Steinbach with family interment at Green Acres Cemetery.

Sadly missed but always in our hearts.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Ilchyna, Dr. Barnard & the nursing staff at Bethesda Hospital for their exceptional care & compassion. Thank you to Father Gerry for his comforting words, the Choir for their special music, the pallbearers, honorary pallbearers, Friedensfeld Community Centre kitchen ladies, and Steinbach Catholic Church Ladies Auxiliary.
