It is with great sadness that we announce that Margaret Hardero passed away on June 28th, 2014 at the age of 82, at the Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach, Manitoba after a three week stay.
Margaret Hardero was born in 1931 in Budapest, Hungary. She survived the holocaust, and was the only member of her family to do so. She immigrated to Canada at the age of 15, settling in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She married Jack Mcdermot, and they had seven children. At the age of 39, she met her second husband Romeo Hardero and they lived in Hudson Hope, British Columbia until he retired and they moved back to Manitoba, first to Blumenort and then settling in Steinbach where they spent their last years at Woodhaven Manor. She was predeceased by both husbands and two daughters: Linda and Donna Mcdermot. She is survived by her sons: Clifford (Sally) Mcdermot, Don (Koko) (Sherene) Mcdermot, and Randy Probst; and her daughters: Monica (Norm) Mcdermot and Jackie Mcdermot; step-son Tyrone Harder, eleven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and a large extended family.
Maggie enjoyed gardening, cooking Hungarian and Mennonite foods, and collecting many things, and had an extensive doll collection. She loved music, including opera, Elvis, country and gospel music, and live music played by local friends and family members. She loved singing and sang in the church choir. During the last few years of her life, after her beloved husband Romeo and two of her daughters passed away, she often found comfort during sleepless nights by reading her Bible, listening to Joyce Meyer ministries, and in the knowledge that they would one day be reunited in heaven. She was short of stature, but had a huge and generous heart and loved to bestow gifts and birthday treats to the people she loved. She had a difficult life, but endured it and found joy in her family and friends. She was unique, always herself, lived her life to the fullest, and will be missed and remembered by those who knew and loved her.
“They that love beyond the world cannot be separated by it. Death cannot kill what never dies”.
The funeral service for Margaret Hardero will be held on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, Manitoba, followed by a luncheon reception and interment at Heritage Cemetery, Steinbach, Manitoba.
