HENRY PACHAL
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Henry Pachal, at the age of 88 years. He was born in the R.M. of La Broquerie on July 18, 1925 to Rudolph and Elizabeth Pachal.
He is survived by three children: Gordon and Lorraine Pachal, Janice and Rodney Beckman and Lloyd and Cathy Pachal; eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters: Lena Krentz, and Norma (Seaton) Coleman; brother-in-law Roy (Adelaide) Freund, sisters-in-law Rose Freund and Adele Schmitke; numerous nieces and nephews and special friend Gerda Plett.
He was predeceased by his wife Milena in 1970, second wife Wanda Wiens in 2010, his brother Bill, sister Roselyn and one son in infancy. He was also predeceased by 10 brothers-in-law and four sisters-in-law.
Dad was born in the R.M. of La Broquerie and attended the Oswald School. He was baptized and confirmed in St Paul's Lutheran church in Friedensfeld.
He met his wife, Milena Freund while working at her father’s (Adolf Freund) Bee Wax factory. They were married on September 27th, 1946 and until her passing on July 15, 1970. He later married Wanda Wiens in October of 1971. This union lasted until February 2010 at which time she passed away.
In his early years, he farmed in Friedensfeld and worked for local contractors. Then he spent a number of years working on bridges in Manitoba. In later years, he sold the farm and worked doing various jobs in construction alongside his son, Gordon.
Dad loved his family and all the family get-togethers very much. He enjoyed helping them with various activities such as the making of gritswurscht, butchering, cutting grass or weeding in our gardens. His own hoe and rubber boots were always kept handy in the trunk of his car. He spent many hours watching sports on TV, walking his dogs and he loved to take long rides in the country.
In June of 2005, he moved to Woodhaven Manor. Here he continued to remain active until the winter of 2012 when his health started to decline. He was admitted to Bethesda Hospital on May 28, 2014 and went to his heavenly home on Saturday, June 21, 2014.
The family wishes to thank the home care staff at Woodhaven and the nursing staff at Bethesda hospital for all their care and compassion.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 25, at 2:00 p.m., at the St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Steinbach, with interment at the church cemetery. Viewing will be at Birchwood Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, June 24, at 7:00 p.m., with a devotional at 7:30 p.m. and at the church prior to the service.
If friends so desire, donations in memory of Henry may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
