ABRAM EWERT GOERTZEN
On June 13, 2014, Abram Goertzen, 81, of Niverville, died of complications of Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia with his family by his side.
He was born on February 17, 1933 in Ste. Anne, MB and lived there on the family farm until the age of 16.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Irmie, and his daughters Bernice, Shari (Bob), and Jennifer (Paul) and 3 granddaughters, 2 grandsons, 2 grandsons-in-law and 4 great grandchildren. He also leaves behind his brothers Cornie (Hilda), and Peter (Marilyn), and his sisters Adina (Kenn), Martha (Neil), Agnes (Helmuth), Annie (Cliff), and sister-in-law Margaret.
He was predeceased by his father, Isaak and mother Maria as well as his brother Peter (in infancy) and his brothers John, Dave and Henry.
Abe was a farmer and a teacher for many years and, in retirement, was very involved with the seniors in his community amongst other volunteer activities for which he won many awards. He was very active with the church and helped start the St. Adolphe Bible Fellowship.
Viewing will be at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Drive, Steinbach on Tuesday, June 17 at 6:30 p.m.. A memorial service will be at the Word of Life Mission Church, Niverville on Wednesday, June 18 at 11:00 a.m..
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Abram may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
