Marguerite Marie Mathilde Irène Brémand (née Courcelles)
May 26, 1919— April 29, 2014
The family is sad to announce the quiet and peaceful death of our Mom at Villa Youville, Ste Anne. She was just short of her 95th birthday.
Predeceased her in death were her husband Henri, sons Daniel and Pierre, son-in-law Gérard Nadeau (Gerry), daughter-in-law Carol Lynne; her parents Aimé and Irène (née Beaudoin); all her siblings and their spouses: Joseph-Aimé (Joe) and Rose-Anna; Anna and Pacifique Courcelles; Dominique and Yvonne; Edouard; Stanislas (Tanis); Agathe and Jean-Marie Lapalisse; Hélène; Joseph-Élie (Titi); David.
Mom leaves to mourn her passing eleven surviving children: Henriette Hilhorst (Robbert); Hélène Nadeau; André (Lise); Lionel (Anne); Etienne (Rita); Noël (Cheryle Lynn); Edouard (Elfrieda); Constance Falk (Norman); Marcel (Rosaline); Rose Brémaud (Richard Fast); Joëlle Nelson (Lyndon); daughter-in-law Linda Dyck. Her sixteen grandchildren are: Carole (Jean), Serge (Ruth); Marius (Jan), Anita (David); Tim, Riley; Eugène, Monique (Joe); Sheldon, Daniel (Roselyn); Ian (fiancée Brittany), Amy; Gilbert (Mélanie), Lynne (Michael), Gérald; Madeleine. Her seven great grand-children are: Marcel, René, Réjean; Mystaya; Kylie, Dalton; Gabriel. She is also survived by Henri's siblings: Adèle Péloquin; Sr. Angèle Brémaud s.g.m.; Bro. Fernand Brémaud o.c.s.o.; Élise Ayotte (Rhéal); Corine Bouchard; Reine Cormier; many nephews & nieces.
Mom suffered and endured many losses in her life. The most painful was the death of her mother when she was eleven years old. She never had a mom to share her joys and sorrows with. Into her old age, she still mourned that loss. Aside from being the last survivor of a large family, she is the last of a generation of many first cousins that included the Jean-Baptiste and Victoria Courcelles family; the Rose-Délima and Rodolphe Beaudette family; the Exilda and Lévis Duchesneau family; the Signard and Arthémise Beaudoin family; the Raoul and Rose Beaudoin family; the Théodora and Stanislas Fisette family. To the end, Mom could name all her cousins in order of age & tell who each one had married.
Mom was born in Ste-Agathe. With Henri and four young children she moved to La Broquerie in 1948 to start a new life. In 1974, Mom and Dad, with the remaining four children at home, moved to Lundar and later to the Clarkleigh area to do some ranching. After Dad's death in 1989, Mom and Pierre moved back to Ste-Agathe. She had been a resident of Villa Youville, Ste-Anne, since 2006.
Mom was a tender mother and a tireless farm wife. She was an excellent cook and baker. She kneaded tons of flour over the years and her bread was "sans pareil". A large vegetable garden and hundreds of jars of canning kept our large family supplied for the winter months. She kept a spotless and orderly house. We may have worn patches but our clothes were clean and kept in good repair. She seemed to know how to do everything. She was a calm person, never a word above the other. She could discipline us by saying only tsk, tsk, tsk.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Villa Youville who so tenderly looked after Mom. She was comfortable and content there. A heartfelt thank you goes to Sr. Irène Rioux and Sr. Céline Vermette who manifested a presence of Church and the sacred that graced her life. Thank you to Dr. Lemoine who looked after our Mom in her time of need. May she now rest in the peace that she so deserves.
The funeral mass was celebrated on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Joachim R.C. Church in La Broquerie. Interment was at the local parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Villa Youville, 15 Charrière Road, Ste Anne, MB R5H 1C9
