RICK LAMONTAGNE

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our dear son Rick (Ricky) Lamontagne on Thursday, Apr. 17, 2014 to a tragic car accident near Hardisty, AB at the age of 30.

Rick was predeceased by his uncle Richard Lamontagne in 1973 and his maternal grandfather Joseph Delorme in 1982.

Rick is survived by his parents Doreen and Randy Lamontagne of Marchand; his sisters, Krystal Lamontagne (Randy Friesen) of Steinbach, Brittany and his nephew Mason of Marchand; his partner Candace Kowalchuk of Winnipeg; his maternal grandmother Clemence Delorme of Steinbach; paternal grandparents (Mémère and Pépère) Armand and Doris Lamontagne of Marchand; his uncles, Harvey Delorme (Carol) of Winnipeg, Roland Delorme of Steinbach, Phil Delorme (Kim) of Marchand and Brian Delorme of Alberta; and numerous cousins.

Rick was born June 24, 1983 in Steinbach and raised in Marchand. He graduated in Ste Anne, MB. He worked for Porthier Gauthier for a few years and then Inland Pipes. Then his adventurous side took him to Provost, AB where he worked for Big Country Energy Services Inc for the pipelines.

Rick was a very unique and special person. He touched the hearts of everyone who knew him. He was born an athlete and excelled in every sport he played, from baseball to hockey, basketball, rugby and kick boxing. He was also a devoted Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Blue Jays fan.

Rick had an infectious smile that could light up a room. He was the kind of person who could make anyone laugh. When he came home he would stop at the bar for a six pack, come home and we would sit around the table and, with his sisters, it was like comedy hour. We would all laugh till we hurt. He would tell us about all the things he had done. And the stories he could tell. He would keep everyone on the edge of their seats.

Rick was only 30, but he lived his life to the fullest. He did what he wanted, when he wanted to do it. When he decided to do something, no one could change his mind.

Rick was very family oriented. One of his greatest joys in life was the birth of his nephew. He was the proudest uncle in the world. When Mason was born and had to stay in intensive care for a few days, Rick sat us down with tears in his eyes and apologized for making us worry about him so much. He said he never knew how parents loved their children and how it felt to worry about them. He now knew what it felt like, worrying about Mason. Family always came first. He was coming home to celebrate his sister and nephew’s birthdays even though they had a bad snowstorm the night before he left and the road conditions had been very bad.

Rick has brought us joy from the day he was born and we were so proud of him. Our chain is now broken, but we will see you again. You are forever in our hearts.

Special thank you to Big Country for their hospitality. Thank you to all the family and friends who kept us in their prayers and for the generous meals that came to our home. Words cannot express our appreciation.

Cremation has already taken place. A celebration of Rick’s life will take place at Christ Our Saviour Church, 365 Loewen Blvd, Steinbach on Friday, May 2 at 10 a.m. with the lunch being served at the Marchand Community Hall.
