ANNE ARMSTRONG
Anne Armstrong, nee Meyer, formerly of Winnipeg and Steinbach, passed away on April 23, 2014, at Grunthal Menno Home for the Aged. She had just celebrated her 97th birthday.
Annie was born in Friesland, Holland on April 10, 1917, to Leon and Lutske Meyer. She was the 3rd of 11 children. In 1929 they immigrated to Manitoba, Canada just before the great depression. She studied Psychiatric nursing in Essendale (Riverview) Hospital in Coquitlam, BC then moved back to Manitoba. In 1951 she married Robert Adam (Bob) Armstrong and they lived on a small property in south St. Vital till 1978, when they moved to Steinbach to retire. Annie worked part time with the Victorian Order of Nurses in the 1960's.
After her husband died in 1988, Annie lived on her own for another 18 years (till 2006) when she suffered a mild stroke. After several months in St. Adolphe Nursing Home Annie moved to Menno Home for the Aged in Grunthal.
Annie was predeceased by her parents, Leon Meyer and Lutske Meyer, sisters Betty Paulusma of Thunder Bay, and Dora Byle of Winnipeg, and 3 brothers- Sid Meyer of Beausejour, John Meyer of St. Germaine, Henry Meyer of Winnipeg.
She is survived by six children: Laura of Steinbach, Jim (Dorothy) of Barrie, ON, Henry (Janet) of Singapore/ Indonesia/ Grunthal, Peter (Darlene) of St. Germaine, Carol of Steinbach/ Winnipeg, and Leslie (Leo) DuBois of St. Malo, 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, three sisters: Wilma DeVos of West St. Paul, Laura Feeleus of Selkirk, and Catherine Kramer of Toronto, two brothers- Leo Meyer Jr. of Winnipeg, and Peter Meyer of St. Germaine, along with many nieces and nephews.
Annie accepted Jesus Christ as her Saviour in the early 1950s. She made many friends in the churches she attended: Avalon Road EMB in St. Vital; Cornerstone EMB, Emmanuel Evangelical Free Church and New Life Baptist in Steinbach, as well as the Grunthal EMB Church. The family rejoices that Mom has finished her race here on this earth and is now with her Lord and Saviour.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Grunthal Menno Home for 8 years of exceptional care and love for our mother. Jim, Henry and Peter also want to publicly thank their sisters, Carol and Leslie, for the countless hours and numerous sacrifices they have spent and numerous sacrifices they have made over the years to make Mom's last years enjoyable for her.
