KATHERINE JULIA LESLEY BARROW

Katherine Julia Lesley Barrow was born on the 3rd November 1992, in Irvine, Scotland; the much loved youngest daughter of Derek and Sian. She had three older brothers, Ian, James and Tom and a sister Emma.

She graduated in 2010 from Ross L Gray School in Sprague. Whilst there she was an enthusiastic member of the Basketball team and loved the trips to away games with her friends.

After graduating she went to England for 6 months to stay with family and to see more of the UK. She treasured the time she spent with family and was the loving Auntie of 4 nieces and 3 nephews, and she could not spoil them enough.

On her return from England she began two new chapters in her life, enrolling at the University of Manitoba; and beginning her relationship with Jordan, who was her rock; and steadfast until the end. They were planning a trip to Toronto in July, when Katherine was suddenly given the devastating news that she had leukemia.

The diagnosis changed her life and meant that she spent a most of her time in Winnipeg receiving treatment. She found a home away from home at A Port in the Storm where she gained great strength from the friendship of the other residents.

Katherine was fortunate in the love and companionship of good friends throughout her life and particularly during her illness.

She was also so touched by the amazing support given to her by her home community. Her family would like to thank the exceptional staff at CancerCare and Health Sciences for their compassion, and the excellent care that they gave Katherine.

We will remember Katherine as a beautiful red-head, with such a sweet nature; who could be funny, smart, brave, stubborn, loyal and above all generous. She touched so many people and will be greatly missed.

There will be a memorial service for Katherine at Glen Lawn, Winnipeg on the 25th April 2014 at 2 pm.

There will also be a celebration of Katherine’s life in the Community Hall in Vassar on Saturday 3rd May 2014 at 2pm. All are welcome to attend both events.
