Peacefully with family by his side, Bert passed away on Monday April 14,2014 at Saint Boniface General Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba at the age of 81 years.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of almost 31 years Ruth, children; Denise (Billy), Bob (Geraldine), Donna (Jim), Mark (Tina), Shawn (Phil), step daughters; Rosemarie (Rick) and Donalda (Guy). Numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, his brother Ronnie (Barbara) along with many nieces and nephews.
Bert was predeceased by his parents Alex and Catherine Christofferson, siblings; Edmund, Violet, Margaret, Evelyn and Dalton.
Bert was known for his huge welcoming smile and was always ready for a good "knee slapper". His sense of humor and his love of life was endless. He was a very kind and gentle man who loved and took great joy in animals, especially horses. He truly and deeply loved his family and never had an unkind word to say.
For many years he worked and lived in Atikokan, Ontario where he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was both well known and feared by many of his coworkers at Proboard . They never knew when one of " Bert's Legendary Poker Games" was going to pop-up. Bert was also a firm but fair beloved Ump during the many Lob Ball Tournaments in Atikokan and then in Middlebro after his retirement in 1990. Bert loved playing cards with friends and family. He enjoyed a good spirited game of crib and even let one of us win once in a while.
Bert was a man with many close friends. He was always there to volunteer in his community and did so every chance he got. He will be greatly missed by everyone whose lives he has touched.
The family would like to thank the St. Boniface Hospital 7A West staff and the Southern Health Palliative Care staff for their excellent and compassionate care extended towards Dad.
Dad fought a long and courageous battle with Cancer for two years. Donations can be made to Canadian Cancer Care for those who wish to donate in Dads memory.
A Memorial Service will was held on Monday, April 21, 2014 - 11:00am at The Middlebro Community Hall in Middlebro, Manitoba.
Internment will followed the service in the Middlebro Community Cemetery.
