RODNEY JACOB KROEKER
It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the passing of Rodney Jacob Kroeker at the age of 68 years, with his family by his side at Bethesda Place, Steinbach, Manitoba. He entered Heaven on Tuesday, March 11, 2014.
Rodney is survived by his wife Carol, his daughter Wendy (Eric) Raymer, his son Jonathan (Jackie), and grandchildren Skyler and Sydney. He also leaves to mourn three brothers, four sisters and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Jacob D. Kroeker and Annie Kroeker (nee Toews), a brother in infancy, and brother-in-law Lewis Reimer.
Rodney was born on October 6, 1945 in Steinbach, Manitoba. He grew up on a farm and attended school in the Clearspring area. After marrying Carol on October 25, 1969, they joined New Tribes Mission for a life of ministry using Rodney’s skills as a printer. During their time in missionary training, they lived in Missouri where Wendy was born. They then moved to Sydney, Australia, where Jon was born. They also served in Sanford, Florida and Papua New Guinea. After moving permanently back to Steinbach in 1987, Rodney was employed at Martens Printing until retirement. Prior to his diagnosis of Parkinson’s and dementia, he worked at MCC, which he enjoyed. For his pastimes, Rodney enjoyed fishing, tinkering, singing, photography, going for drives and old cars.
Viewing was held on Sunday, March 16, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. with a devotional at 7:30 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach.
The funeral service was held on Monday, March 17, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Steinbach Evangelical Mennonite Church with interment at Heritage Cemetery, Steinbach.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Kaethler and all the caring staff at Bethesda Hospital and Bethesda Place for their kindness and support during Rodney’s last days.
If friends so desire, donations in memory of Rodney may be made to New Tribes Missions, Box 707, Durham, ON, N0G 1R0.
