MABEL OSWALD

On a beautiful, sunny day, our mom Mabel Oswald (nee Meseman) passed away having spent the day surrounded by her loving family. Mabel passed away on her 93rd birthday, Friday, March 7, 2014 at the Rest Haven Nursing Home in Steinbach, MB.

She was predeceased by her husband William in 1995, her son-in-law Ken Maki and her grandson Dean Maki.

She is survived by her four children: Agnes (Jerry) Ciastko, June (Norman) Holme, Lucille Maki, and Lloyd (Pamela) Oswald; her grandchildren: Craig (Susan), Shelley (Paul), Kim (John), Marcia (Glenn), Larry, Crystal (Marc), and Devin (Praisea); her great-grandchildren: Amy (Trevor), Sydney, Caelin, Katarina, Natalia, Alexia, Brittany (Gareth), Ryan, Jessica, Avery, Neve, Kristy, Kenneth, Mikaela, Emily, Hazelyn, and Destin; as well as three great-great-grandchildren and her sister Pauline Fisher.
Mabel was born to Emma and Karl Bangart. When she was three years old, William and Augusta Meseman of Friedensfeld, took Mabel and her younger sister Ruth into their home.

Mom was a hardworking person and helped Dad on the farm. She had a huge garden and flowers. She also was the cook at Friedensfeld for 20 years, where she made many friends. She was known for her famous chicken noodle soup, apple pies, and her perogies. Our freezers were always full.
Mom loved to knit. The grandkids had sweaters of every color. She also knit everyone a christening gown. Mabel also sang in the German choir and belonged to the quilting club. The church was very important to her. Mom was very jolly; she always had a smile for everyone. Mom and Dad loved to entertain with their friends and always had an excuse to party.
When Dad got sick they moved off the farm to Steinbach, MB. Mom rented an apartment in town and continued to be active, still driving her car. After a few years she had to move to a senior’s home.

Our deepest thank-you to the Rest Haven Nursing Home staff for the utmost care they gave Mom.
