Peacefully, with family at her side, Agatha Giesbrecht passed away on March 6, 2014 at the age of 90.
She is survived by her children and their spouses: Dick (Lorna), Norm, Dave (Eleanor), Grace (Larry), Don (Lorraine), Joyce (Harv), Allan (Diane), and Lil (Lex); 25 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; as well as three brothers and their spouses: twin brother Peter and Vera, Abe and Martha and Dave and Doris.
She was predeceased by her husband Peter, of 69 years, who passed away January 18, 2014; daughter Emily in infancy, grandson Gregory in infancy, daughter-in-law Marlene (2010), three sisters and seven brothers.
She was born August 25, 1923 to Peter and Aganetha Friesen and grew up on the family farm in Osterwick. On April 23, 1944, she married Dad and they made their home a few miles west of New Bothwell. Her children were her pride and joy and she took pleasure in nurturing them. She showed them by example that hard work was not to be shied away from. She took pleasure in teaching Sunday school as well as teaching her children and grandchildren about Jesus and how he especially loved children. In 1979, they sold the family farm and moved to Mitchell where she had more time to devote to hobbies she enjoyed such as playing the organ, singing, gardening, sewing, quilting, reading and surfing the internet, which she learned at the age of 75. In 2006, they moved to a seniors' complex in Steinbach where she lived until her passing. On Wednesday, January 8, 2014, she was admitted to hospital with pneumonia and passed away on March 6, 2014.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Drive, Steinbach, with interment at Niverville Hespeler Cemetery after the service and lunch.
