Dr. Arnold Harry Anderson was tragically killed in a car accident on Friday, February 28th, 2014 at the age of 66.
Arnie, as he was known, was born October 27, 1947, at the St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba and spent the majority of his life growing up on Simcoe Street in Winnipeg.
He is predeceased by his mother, Laura Richards Anderson; father, Harry Arnold Anderson; and grandson, Gordon Ray Anderson. He is remembered by his wife, Coleen and their seven children; Kirsten (Sean), Matthew (Lisa), Benjamin (Margarita), Tyler (Kristina), Megan (Jared), Breanne and Devin; and his 16 grandchildren with one due in June. He is also survived by his siblings Mair Livingstone (Karl Busch), Dennis (Nellie) and Janet.
In 1976 he graduated from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry and became a leader and mentor in his chosen profession. Later that year he met and married Coleen and raised their children in St. Andrews, Manitoba. Arnie was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served as a missionary, representing his faith in Toronto, Ontario for two years during 1968-1970.
"A superior man is modest in his speech, but exceeds in his actions." This was Arnie. All those who knew him were recipients of his quiet acts of service and kindness. He was a giving and compassionate man with a sense of humor as large as his heart.
Funeral services will take place on Saturday, March 8, viewing at 10 a.m. and services beginning at 11 a.m. at the LDS Stake Center, 45 Dalhousie Drive, Winnipeg. Luncheon to follow. Interment will be held at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens in the Garden of Devotion. Instead of flowers, donations can be given to the Dr. Arnold H. Anderson OD Scholarship Program for the GRAND Developmental Vision Institute.
