It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gertrude Doerksen on Friday, February 7, 2014 at Rest Haven Nursing Home, Steinbach, MB.
Our mother Gertrude Doerksen was born to Abraham and Agatha Friesen on May 8th, 1922
in Main Center, SK. She was baptized on her confession of her faith on June 2, 1941, at the Sommerfeld Church, north of Gouldtown, SK. She married our Dad, Peter D. Doerksen on July 9th, 1942.
Mom is survived by three daughters Dora (Sobering), Linda (Frank Broesky) and Norma; son Henry (Joyce), 10 grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, six sisters-in-law, three brothers and one brother-in-law.
She was predeceased by her husband Peter, son-in-law Walter Sobering, her parents, and four brothers.
Viewing will be held on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. with a devotional at 6:30 p.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB. There will also be a viewing at the chapel prior to the service.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB. Interment to follow at Heritage Cemetery, Steinbach, MB.
If friends so desire, donations in memory of Gertrude may be made to The Sommerfeld Missions.
We would like to thank the homecare staff at Fernwood for their many years of special care they gave Mom. Even though her stay at Rest Haven was short, the care you all gave Mom was incredible, thanks so much! Thanks also to the chaplain at Rest Haven and the pastors from her church who took time to care for Mom spiritually.
