Our stepmother, grandmother, and great-grandmother Margaret Koop Banman, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 27th, 2014 at Bethesda hospital, Steinbach, MB. Margaret was born May 23, 1917 to John B. and Aganetha (Barkman) Koop. She reached the age of 96 years and 8 months. Most of those years were healthy.
She grew up on a farm near Hochstadt which is close to Kleefeld, MB. She worked for many years in BC as a hospital cook.
She is survived by two sisters and her six stepchildren, their spouses and their families. She was predeceased by our father Cornelius K. Banman, her parents John and Aganetha Koop, five brothers and three sisters.
Margaret married Dad on April 6, 1974. They had 15 wonderful years together. Margaret was a great consolation and companion to dad.
After Dad died, Margaret kept up her enthusiasm for family gatherings, accepted everyone just the way we were. One of the great-grandchildren remembered she was a good baker and very helpful. We all enjoyed her delicious Somma Borscht and homemade Saskatoon pies for many years.
Margaret was a very steady, firm, strong believer. We very much leaned on her strong faith. She was very independent, did her own cooking almost to the end. She always appreciated when we took time to take her out.
A special thank you to Dr. Karen Toews and the staff at Bethesda Hospital for taking such good care of Mrs. Margaret Banman.
We know Mom, grandmother, great grandmother is in a much better place today and as a family we praise God for that hope that He alone can give.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, January 31, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, with interment to follow at Mitchell Gospel Church Cemetery, Mitchell. Viewing at the chapel prior to the service.
