LEONA KOOP (nee UNGER)
May 22, 1935 – January 24, 2014
Leona Koop, 78, of Steinbach, passed away on Friday, January 24, 2014 at Bethesda Hospital, Steinbach.
She is survived by five children: Robert (Janice), Marlene (John), Russell (Pauline), Myrna, and Mavis (Tim); 14 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one sister, Edna (Ron) Goodwin; niece Tonya (Chris), and Jason (Marie).
She was predeceased by her husband Abe Koop, her parents Cornelius S. and Anna Unger.
Mom was born on May 22, 1935 to Cornelius S. Unger and Anna Unger.
Mom lived on a farm with her parents and one sister and went to the Moray school.
At the age of 18 she went to Winnipeg to study nursing. After her graduation she worked at Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach for a total of 35 years. She married Abe Koop in April of 1981.
Mom was baptized on June 16, 1957 at the Steinbach Chortitzer Church, Steinbach, Manitoba.
Mom loved to read, knit, and bake. In the summertime she loved to garden. She loved her flowers too! She also loved to watch sports with her dog Harley.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, with visitation from 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Heritage Cemetery, Steinbach, Manitoba.
A special thank you to Dr. Krahn and the nursing staff at Bethesda Hospital for taking such good care of Mom.
We love you, Mom! We will miss you a lot!
