SUSAN MacLEAN

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Susan Joan MacLean (nee Edbom), our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, aunt and friend, at 67 years of age.

After a very short battle with cancer, our mother passed away on Monday, Oct. 14, 2013. She was predeceased by her father Brue Edbom, her brother James Edbom, and nephew Terry Yaremchuk, mother-in-law Muriel MacLean, and brother-in-law James MacLean.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband Douglas, her children Gwen (Amber), Jackie (Richard) and Dean, her grandchildren Dezsi, Carrie and Tarah, her sisters Doreen and Linda (Bill), and her mother Ilo.

Mom was employed as a Teachers Aid at the Boundary School Division in Vita, MB for a number of years before moving to Winnipeg to work with Pemmican Publications. She travelled extensively to publishing and book trade conferences in Australia, Mexico, London and Minneapolis, just to name a few. In 1990, she became the publisher of Pemmican until 1998 when she returned back to Piney and began her years of employment as a Teachers Aid at Boundary School Division in Vita and also at the Pine Land Colony. Her love and passion of working with the children was very evident. Her kindness, humour and unconditional love were not only obvious at home with our family and friends, but she also took that to her job each and every day. I believe Mom had a profound effect on the students she worked with. She always expressed such kindness to them, never judging them, guiding them the best she could and always joking with them and making them feel that they were important and that they were special to her.

The most important lessons were not verbal; they were in her actions. She always worked hard, never complained and was there when you needed her. She was our mother, but also our friend. She was a lovely woman who embodied all of the attributes of a perfect mom. She was caring, thoughtful, hardworking, compassionate and loving, and so much more.

The family would like to extend their gratitude for all those who attended Mom’s service on Saturday, Oct. 19, expressed their condolences, sent flowers and joined us in our time of need. We would also like to thank Dr Trish Penner and staff at the Steinbach Bethesda Hospital for their kind and compassionate care.

We will always remember the kindness extended to us by many – Thank you.
