MARY WIEBE

Peacefully, with her daughter at her side, Mary Wiebe (nee Braun), aged 89 years of Grunthal, passed away at the Bethesda Hospital on Thursday, October 24, 2013.
Mary leaves to mourn her passing her husband Jake; one son Henry (Helen); three daughters: Anne (John Funk), Helen (Dave Wiebe), Evelyn (Bill Krahn), and one daughter-in-law Phyllis Wiebe; 13 grandchildren and their families. She is also survived by her sister Katherine (David) Wiebe; brother John (Helen) Braun, sisters-in-law: Susana Dueck, Erica Braun; sisters: Agatha Dueck, Gertrude Kroeker, Eva Hiebert, Margaret (Menno) Schultz, Helen Huitikka, Barbara (Harry) Wieler and brother-in- law Laurie Major.

She was predeceased by one son Harvey (Jan. 2012), a granddaughter Michelle in infancy; and three brothers and three sisters: Jacob Braun, Cornelius Braun, Anna Doerksen, Jessie Major, Agnes Friesen, Peter and Susana in infancy.

Mom was born on July 20, 1924, to John and Anna (Klassen) Braun in the Grunthal area. She and her twin sister were the fifth born in a family of seven. Her mother passed away when she was just eight years old. She had sad memories of that time and often spoke about how difficult those years had been. Her father remarried and subsequently another seven siblings were added to the family in following years.
Mom married our dad, Jacob Wiebe, July 19, 1945. They shared joys and sorrows for 68 years. Those early years were not always easy; raising five children while dad was away at work, Mom was often left in charge of the farm and family.

Over the years Mom was involved in variety of volunteer activities. She taught Sunday School, was active on the Menno Home Board and worked in the kitchen at Carberry Bible Camp. Her favourite place of work was the MCC Thrift Shop in Grunthal. She spent many hours there sorting, packing and clerking.
Mom loved people. She could strike up a conversation anywhere with anyone. To her a stranger was a friend she had not yet met.

In the last few years, due to illness, Mom was often confined to her home and had to give up many things she enjoyed, but her family always remained her top priority and she treasured the many visits with her children and grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held Sunday, October 27, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Grunthal Abundant Life Fellowship with interment at the Grunthal Cemetery.
Special thanks to Dr. Gumber and the palliative care team at the Bethesda Hospital for the kind and compassionate care.

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith..." 2 Timothy 4:7 Rest in Peace Mom! We love you!
