MICHAEL GEORGE LEFEBVRE
1961 - 2020

On Thursday, October 1, 2020, the world lost a wonderful person. Michael passed away peacefully at Riverview Health Centre, with his family by his side, at the age of 59 years.
Remaining to forever cherish Michael's memory is Anne, his beloved wife of 34 years; his son Andrew, wife Haley and grandchildren, Jack and Sadie; daughter Jess, future son-in-law Miguel and granddaughter Addison. Michael is survived by his much-loved dad, George. Also left to mourn him are his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Marg and Bruce Devries, and numerous nieces, his nephew, cousins, and dear friends. He was predeceased by his mom, his in-laws and many relatives and friends.
Michael was born overseas (in Germany) on August 14, 1961. His family moved back to Portage la Prairie when he was six months old. They moved to Winnipeg when he was six years old and he grew up on Athlone Drive.
On October 2, 1982, Michael met Anne. They each had found the love of their lives. They were married on August 2, 1986 and built a wonderful life and a loving family together. Family was the driving force for Michael. He so loved each and every one of us.
Michael loved working at Bristol Aerospace and had retired in June of 2019. He made many good friends there, and he valued their friendships.
He loved the cottage at Rush Bay, and we have many wonderful memories of lake life. He loved his Saturday morning hockey guys, golfing on Thursday nights in Teulon, golfing with friends, and he loved hockey, the Jets, and the Blue Bombers.
A private family service will be held on Sunday, October 11, 2020.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to either the Seven Oaks Home Hemodialysis program or the Kidney Foundation of Canada or the charity of your choice.

  • Dear Ann and family, Mr. Lefebvre, friends, Mike and I were childhood friends from my years on Athlone Drive. We went to school together at Athlone Elementary and Bruce Junior High, played team sports together, hockey and soccer, countless other sports- pickup football on the GraceHospital grounds, baseball, swimming at my place, ping pong, rink rats hockey at the 'Have. I remember that school and sports came easy for Mike. He was good at it all. He was a competitor, tough minded and tough physically. He did not back down from disputes(he could get "under your skin") and this at times got him in to trouble...but, Mike was fleet of foot, quick/agile...no one could catch him. Memories come to mind: taking shots- slapshots and goaltending on his driveway at lunch hour, playing right up "to the bell"; trying earnestly to take each other's heads off with snowballs when the snow was right; playing "crud" with Mike and Mr. Lefebvre at the Base- a frantic and fun game played around a large pool table, and cold pop and a bag of potato chips after. My one and only school detention was thanks to Mike. He drew me in to a shin kicking match in science class at BruceJunior...our attempts to suppress pain and laughter did not go unnoticed by Mr. Kulchyski.."Well, well, what do we have here? " Mr Kulchyski said. Reprimanded again for talking while in detention increased the detention length of time. You can imagine how I felt when Mike was dismissed after serving only a very short time in detention due to having a piano lesson. A fish story- I went with Mike to visit his cousins in the Minnedosa area. I remember meeting his cousins and new puppies and having a great time. While there we went fishing, I think on Lake Minnedosa. Mike hooked the largest jackfish I have ever seen- to this day. I never saw the full fish, just the girth of it's head- it was huge! Mike, seated on the hard top roof of the boat, was slowly being pulled off the roof by this giant! He became increasingly concerned, then frantic! I was the netman- stunned by the size of the fish and the unfolding emergency. Mike's dad had to grab him and hold him on the roof and then took over the rod...the fish snapped the line and lived another day. Despite keeping him on the boat and dry, I think Mike was a little ticked off that his dad lost his fish! If anyone ever caught a giant jack on Lake Minnedosa, that is Mike's hook in it's mouth. I was happy to read that Mike continued on to enjoy the game of golf. He had reason to not do so. Playing the nine hole course at Blumberg, and in the rough, a lady did not wait until Mike was safely out of the way. After playing his shot, Mike was putting his club in his bag, the lady, inexplicably, took her shot immediately, striking Mike in the mouth. And she continued on playing her round! Mike and I walked to the clubhouse. The pro let us call our parents...then went out on the course, loaded up this lady and kicked her off the course, I think banning her from ever playing there again. I like to think he is being loved and hugged by his mom who he adored, hugged by my mom also cause she loved Mike too! My sincere condolences to you all. My thoughts are with you. My thoughts often go back to my Athlone days. These thoughts include Mike. In this way I have always remembered him and always will. • Hello Anne and Family. I worked with Mike for many years and played hockey with him on Saturday mornings. Mike was responsible for managerial accounting for my division at Bristol Aerospace. We needed a lot of help and he never let us down. He was very well liked by all his coworkers and was active in the social committee. One of the great things about Mike was that he always saw humour in our day to day work. I retired just ahead of him and expected to see him at the spring hockey weekends for years to come. He was taken way too early. My condolences. Dave - Posted by: David O'Connor (Friend) on: Oct 10, 2020
