Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Memories of our friend. Sandi worked at Calgary Board of Education in the downtown building where Leanne worked in 1980 and lived 2 houses away down our back alley in Woodlands. On occasion, Sandi and Gerry would babysit Darren and Barb even though they had a lot of energy. On one of these occasions, Sandi and Gerry tried to settle them down for a sleep and when unsuccessful gave them a shot of brandy. This reacted to make them even more energetic and didn’t go to sleep most of the night. After Leanne took a break from CBE, Sandi offered to drive me to work since it was on her way. Our neighbors must have wondered what was going on as I would climb into Sandi’s car in the back alley, and then Gerry would stroll down for a coffee 15 minutes later. The trips downtown were memorable as Sandi would make sure the car would vibrate just was we were sitting on the Glenmore overpass just to see me become uneasy. Sandi and Gerry often talked of how proud we were of our children – Sue at taking modeling lesson, Duane going to Rhodes College and then starting out as an engineer at Home Oil, where I worked. After Sandi and Gerry retired and moved to Winnipeg, we visited on occasion and were treated exceptionally well. Sandi always insisted on making her favorite cheese cake for me. We would talk golfing as they had a membership in Nanton that they could not use, and for which we later bought. Our last visit to see Sandi was just the summer of 2019. We enjoyed hearing how each other’s families were doing. We will miss you, “Boo and Wayner” as she called us. - Posted by: Wayne and Leanne Bateman (Friends) on: Oct 23, 2020

  • Memories of my Aunt Sandi go back to childhood. When she & Uncle Gerry would travel to visit my mom and My 3 siblings in Hamilton She took my sister & I shopping for Beautiful dresses. They paid every year for my girl guide camp. They surprised me by showing up at my wedding so Gerry could give me away. They were there when my first son was born. They visited as often as they could as they raised susan & Duane. A few years ago, it was my turn — I was with Sandi when Gerry passed away. Now she has gone to be with him. Peace has found them both. - Posted by: Laura Peddle (Niece) on: Oct 12, 2020
