It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Peter Isaac Friesen, loving husband, father, and Opa. Peter died peacefully in Winnipeg at Tuxedo Villa Extendicare on Tuesday, October 13, shortly before his 95th birthday.
Peter was baptized upon confession of his faith in 1946, and was an active member of Sargent Avenue Mennonite Church in Winnipeg. He spent a fulfilling career teaching in the public schools of Southern Manitoba and North Winnipeg, as well as many happy years as a salesperson. Peter was an avid gardener, tending flowers from seed each winter, and a thorough and dedicated genealogist of the family's history. Through all his professional and personal achievements, his faith and his family remained his two great passions.
Peter is survived by his daughter, Elfrieda (Brian) Bergen and their children, Scott, Marc, and Jason; son, Ken (Bonita) and their children, Katelyn and Halie; sisters-in-law, Betty Friesen and Helen Friesen, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Peter is predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Tina Friesen (nee Schellenberg), in 2013; parents, Isaac Peter and Maria Friesen; siblings, Johnny, Mary (Cornie) Esau, Agatha (Helmut) Rempel, George, and Jack (Ann).
The family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the excellent staff at Riverwood Square and Tuxedo Villa Extendicare for giving Peter a warm and caring home, and compassionate and attentive care, during the final years of his life.
A private Celebration of Life service for immediate family will be held on Monday, October 19 at 3:00 p.m,, with slideshow memories of Peter's life beginning fifteen minutes prior.
