THOMAS J. RUBEL
April 27, 1927 - October 17, 2020

We are sad to announce the peaceful passing of Tom on October 17, 2020, at the St. Boniface Hospital. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to so many.
He is survived and will be greatly missed by his wife Pat, of 63 years, sons, David (Sharon), Mark (Manon) and Jaime (Kelly). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jordan, Jesse, Julie, Bryson and Jacqueline, sister Carolyn Mowery, and nieces, Joan Koss, Jean Petteys and Janet Koss.
Tom was predeceased by his parents, Anton and Wilhelmena, in-laws, Tom and Mary Shulsky, sister Jennie Koss and her husband John, and brother-in-law John Mowery.
Tom was born in Inglis, Manitoba on April 27, 1927. At a very young age Tom relocated to Winnipeg and joined the Toronto Dominion Bank where he worked while putting himself through school to become a Chartered Accountant. Throughout his working life he also had his own accounting practice and ended his long career retiring from the Province of Manitoba Taxation Department. Retirement allowed Tom time to accept and dedicate himself to the honoured position of District Governor of Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario for the Lions Club, where he had spent 60 years as a committed member. He was an instrumental leader with the Lions and took great pride in the opening of many new clubs and securing many new memberships for the Lions.
Tom, Pat and their family were especially happy spending time at the family cottage he and Pat built in 1970 at Laclu, Ontario. The cottage was an extreme accomplishment for Tom and Laclu served as our family gathering spot every summer. Tom was able to enjoy his cottage weekends as recently as this past September long weekend - still trimming tree branches and describing to all of us exactly how the cottage was built. Laclu was also where the "serious" cribbage games were hosted and Tom was the master, even at 93. He actually had a "29 hand" many years ago and was so proud to be published in the Winnipeg Tribune.
Tom and Pat were long standing members at Sherwood Park Lutheran Church and enjoyed the friendships they made and the frequent Gentlemen's breakfast.
Due to Covid-19, a celebration of Tom's life will be held at a later date.
Flowers are gratefully declined.
