DONNA CHUBACK

On October 20, 2020, Donna Elaine (Craig) Chuback died peacefully at Riverview Health Centre, at the age of 72, with her husband Tony Chuback by her side.
She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family and friends. Donna was the beloved wife of Tony for 50 years, and together they built a beautiful life that brought her joy that she shared with everyone around her. They loved each other dearly and were a true partnership. Her children, Nicholas (Sadira Garfinkel) Chuback and Jennifer (Blake Yarascavitch) Chuback and grandchildren, Grant, Edward, Luke and Margot were an endless source of happiness and pride. We are so grateful to have had her as a mother and grandmother. Her motherly nature influenced everything she did, and her kindness, caring and support filled us with love. Donna enjoyed particularly close friendships with her brother Richard (Pam) Craig, and her sister Debra (Joel) Feuer, and with her brother and sister-in-law Merven and Nancy Chuback. Left with many happy memories are her nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Donna was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Margaret Craig. She was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and along with her siblings enjoyed a happy childhood filled with great meals, conversation, and games. After high school, Donna attended the St. Boniface Hospital School of Nursing and graduated in 1969, to begin her 44-year nursing career. Donna was a talented and caring nurse and she enjoyed working in the operating room. Through her nursing education and career, she formed friendships that she held dearly. Donna and Tony were married in 1970 and lived in Thompson, Saint John, Ottawa, and Calgary before returning to Winnipeg in 1979. During their travels Donna continued her education at the University of New Brunswick Saint John, Carleton University and completed her Bachelor of Science at the University of Winnipeg in 1991.
Donna was generous and nurturing, and she loved staying in touch with her large circle of family and friends. Holidays were particularly special to her, and she made each one memorable for all of us. She was an avid reader and completed crosswords with ease. Donna was a tough competitor at Scrabble and Words With Friends and always had several games on the go. Needlepoint was her artistic outlet, and we are lucky to have many of her projects to remember her by. She loved being active outdoors and found peace in nature. Throughout her life Donna travelled often and she enjoyed every adventure.
Given present circumstances no funeral will be held. We treasure the time we had with Donna and the memories that remain. Taking a moment to enjoy nature would be a fitting tribute to her.
We wish to thank Dr. James Johnston and Irena Hibbert, Dr. Andrew Cooke, Dr. Marni Wiseman and the team at CancerCare Manitoba for their excellent care, compassion and support. In lieu of flowers, a memorial gift to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation would be greatly appreciated.

  • I will miss my Auntie Donna so much. I have many memories of losing to her at scrabble during Sunday family dinners. At the time, I didn’t realize how fond those memories would become, but they are precious to me now as I handily win scrabble against my own children (but rarely Donna’s brother (my Dad), Rick). Sending love to Uncle Tony, Nick & Sid, Jeni & Blake, and all four of Donna’s beautiful grandbabies. Your Gramma adored you and we will make sure you always feel it. ❤️ - Posted by: Ashleigh Yule (Niece & family) on: Oct 24, 2020
