HELEN HELMLE

We sadly announce the passing of Helen Helmle on October 16, 2020, at the age of 87.
Helen was surrounded by her children, Marilyn (Barry), and Randy (Trisha); grandchildren Charity (Craig), Darrell (Heather), Evelyn, Nolan, Mylan; and great-grandchildren, Preston and Maddie, where she peacefully passed away at her home in Bowmanville, ON.
Helen was born in Langenburg, SK, where she grew up on the family farm and later married David Helmle and moved to Winnipeg, MB, where they lived for over 55 years. They later moved to Ontario to be nearer to the family.
Helen worked at The Golden Door Nursing Home until retirement in Winnipeg, MB. After her retirement she worked as a home care and support worker for many years helping the elderly.
Helen's skill and passion for knitting, crocheting and needle work was always evident in the home. She made many friends through the various organizations she belonged to in both Winnipeg and in Ontario while showcasing her talents.
Helen was a very loving and caring person who went out of her way to lend support to others with compassion and an abundance of love. Helen enjoyed family gatherings at which you could always find her preparing a feast and the door was always open to everyone. Helen's biggest love was family and she always made sure you felt loved no matter where you were.
Helen's wishes were not to have any Celebration of Life or service, and only to be remembered in thoughts and prayers, and will be laid to rest with husband David and son Darrell in Winnipeg's Chapel Lawn Cemetery in the spring of 2021 at her request.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Memorial Hospital Foundation Bowmanville.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Helen was everyone's mom. She would scold you when needed, but more so gave you a smile, quick hug, sarcastic comment or playful slap to make you know she approved of you. She was a constant in our lives growing up in the "Rouge". A huge fan of us as athletes...a bigger one of us as kids. Our thoughts go out to the family. - Posted by: Ozzie Filippin (Friend) on: Oct 26, 2020

  • Sending our condolences to the entire family on this sad occassion. Helen was a true Matriarch of the family, while in Winnipeg she was the glue that held the family together. - Posted by: Barbara Glover (Friend of family) on: Oct 26, 2020

  • Helen was a very important part of my life. As children she regularly drove us to various sporting events and was one of our biggest fans. She made each of us feel as if we were one of her children. As adults she took pride and interest in whatever we were doing. She is someone I will never forget. A kind and generous woman who left her mark. May she rest in peace. My condolences to the whole family. - Posted by: joe Aiello (Friend) on: Oct 26, 2020
