ROSINA SIMONIS
(nee ROTHBACHER)
September 24, 1926 - October 6, 2020
Rosina, aka Sini, was born the eldest of five children to Georg and Rosina Rothbacher in Heldsdorf / Halchiu, a village near the city of Kronstadt / Brasov in Siebenburgen / Transylvania, but lived a large part of her life in the village of Sarulesti, Romania. She was fluent in three languages, adding English after she immigrated to Canada in 1986, and to the USA in 2010 to join her daughter Mariea's family.
Sini developed habits of industry, order and thrift early in life. She was a "lark" preferring to get "work" out of the way early. Rosina socialized by telephone, letter and in person visits with an ever-growing circle of family and friends, writing an avalanche of birthday and Christmas cards during her 94 years. Next to babies, she adored all flowers, treating herself weekly to bouquets of mini carnations. Sini was a voracious reader; loved baking; doing macramé needlework; travelling to Los Angeles for winter holidays. She was an active member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church and the North Y Seniors Swim Club.
Rosina leaves to celebrate her life: daughters, Mariea Moldoveanu and Stefanie Zamfir and families in the USA; stepdaughters, Christine Dewar of Winnipeg and Dietlinde Cripps of Thompson, and families; sister Rosi Hubbes and brother-in-law Georg Frantz in Germany. She was predeceased by her parents, husbands, Constantin Dumitru and George Simonis; siblings, Marta Gutt, Georg Rothbacher and Katharina Frantz.
The church bells which tolled in her birthplace, echoed in our hearts as she was laid to rest on October 15, 2020, at the cemetery Funeraria del Angel Rose Lawn in Brownsville.
