HELEN JEAN KIRKHAM
She was born on July 14, 1941, in Galahad, Alberta, to Ernest and Frances Marchand.
She has joined her husband, Lloyd Kirkham, who passed away in 2011.
Helen was a nursing graduate of Edmonton's Royal Alexandra Hospital and the University of Manitoba, She taught for many years at Winnipeg's Children's Hospital and the Grace Hospital.
Care giving always came natural to Helen. Even after retirement in 1997, she volunteered at the local medical center. Friends and family would often ask Helen for medical advice, and she was always there for them.
Lloyd and Helen moved to the United States from Canada in 1992 and came to settle in Harrison in 1997 after falling in love with the life and people of the Ozarks.
Helen is survived by her brother Jim Marchand; her son Lance and wife Priscilla; her grandson Kane; as well as nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and many, many friends.
Funeral services were held Thursday, October 29, at Coffman Funeral Home Chapel in Harrison.

I was one of Helen's students- Grace Grad 1985. I never thought I would enjoy working with kids. She showed me what a rewarding area it can be. I did my senior practicum at Children's and was hired to that same ward where I stayed for 34yrs. I hope in those years I was able to share with students the qualities Helen shared with me. My thoughts are with her family. Sheilagh (Braun) Hocking. - Posted by: Sheilagh Hocking (Student) on: Nov 08, 2020

I am a former student of Helen’s. It is because of her that I have been a nurse at the Winnipeg Children’s Hospital for more than 30 years. Helen was by far my favourite instructor. She taught with patience, humour and empathy. I was fortunate enough to be able to follow in Helen’s footsteps and teach on the same unit. I thought of her every day. My most sincere sympathy to Helen’s family. Sharon (Smalley) Hadder, RN - Posted by: Sharon Hadder (Former Student) on: Nov 06, 2020

Helen and I first met in the late 1960s and became best friends. And we stayed friends all these many years. She was like a sister to me. She was a wonderful nurse and friend and an all around great lady! She will be greatly missed. Sincere condolences to Lance, Priscilla and Kane from Glenn and myself. - Posted by: Carolyn Vogt (colleague and friend) on: Nov 02, 2020

I was one of Helen's students at the Grace Hospital. She taught by example...kind, gentle, considerate. But always with the skills required to provide exemplary care to the patients. Rest in Peace, Helen.. Sincere condolences to family and friends. - Posted by: Judith Hodgson (former Student) on: Oct 31, 2020
