THOMAS (TOM CAT) CHANDLER
December 3, 1965 - September 29, 2020

Tom passed unexpectedly, at 54 years of age, at the Community Garden on Sherbrook Street near Broadway, in Winnipeg.
He is survived by his mother, Noreen; sister, Teresa and her husband, Brian McLean; brother, Ken; and nephew, David, who live in Toronto, Ontario; his father, Larry, and stepsister Connie (Trevor) Spence, who live in Surrey, BC; his nephews, Lucas (Lauren) and Evan (Tori) in Winnipeg, his aunts, Mary Coling and Barbara (Daniel) Norris in Ontario; and his many friends.
Tom was creative and resourceful, known for his inventive cooking and baking techniques, and his ability to "MacGyver" most anything. He loved to cook, paint, play wild electric guitar under the stars; he had a playful sense of humour, a trickster, and was always, always smoking, and always with friends. He lived the beat generation poetry: "Follow your inner moonlight; don't hide the madness" - Allen Ginsberg; and carried Jack Kerouac's novel "On the Road" with him for a time. His life was not easy, but he was free.
Tom saw the beauty and humour in life, and he will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.
Cremation has taken place. A funeral service for Tom will be held at Thomson Funeral Home on Broadway, November 2, at 1:00 p.m. Due to Covid, a limited number of people will be able to attend. If you wish to participate in the service, it will be on Facebook Live, through the funeral home website ThomsonFuneralChapel.com. Afterwards, at 1:30 p.m., Tom's ashes will be interred at Young United Church Memorial Garden on Furby Street and all are welcome, five at a time, for prayers.
Family gives special thanks to Lynda Trono, Community Minister, and donations may be made in Tom's memory to the West Broadway Community Ministry in Winnipeg.
