RODERICK KEITH MCEWEN
April 14, 1955 - October 28, 2020

Rod was born to Helen I. Worbeck and A. Keith McEwen in Ottawa, Ontario.
He leaves to mourn his wife Denise, and children, Damon Durant (Kayla Henderson), Eliza Durant and Rowan McEwen (Cole Choken); grandchildren, Grace Carter and Leonidas Choken; sisters, M. Linda McEwen and Gwen McEwen, (Wayne McEwen); nieces and nephews, Christopher, Andrew, Michael, Katie, Brianna. Many relatives in the Roblin, Manitoba area will also miss him.
Rod had his BSC and Teaching diplomas from the University of Manitoba, 1976. He loved teaching and being a principal, and did so happily for 34 years. Riverbend Colony, Brookdale Elementary, and Spruce Woods Colony were his favourite places to work. He made a lot of friends everywhere he worked or volunteered because he believed in the goodness of others! Kindness was his keyword!
Rod loved skiing, travelling, always learning about new things. Gardening was his other great passion!

We will miss his company for the rest of
our lives. Thank you Rod for your Love.

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • Rod and I have not been in contact for many years but I have fond memories of our University days together. Some fun and adventurous times in St John’s residence and great discussions on world events. Rod was a gentle and very thoughtful soul and I am sure he will be missed by the many family and friends in his life. - Posted by: Bob McConkey (Friend) on: Jun 02, 2023

  • I am sorry to hear Rod's passing. I know Rod when he was teaching in the Carberry area at a Hutterite Colony in the mid '80's. Please accept my condolences. God Bless! - Posted by: Hank Hildebrand (Acquaintance) on: Nov 10, 2020

  • I grew up next door to the McEwen family in Stonewall, Manitoba. Rod was the 'older' brother of my friend Gwen. I spent countless hours at their place playing, or having sleepovers in the 'Little House'. Rod was usually around and I always remember him as being very kind. He wasn't the kind of older brother that didn't want the younger kids hanging around him. As a matter of fact, I have very fond memories of the neighbourhood soccer games that Rod would organize in their huge front yard, and everyone was included, regardless of your age! Afterwards their Mom would bring out weiners, buns and marshmallows for the whole neighbourhood to have a weiner roast; always in their front yard fire pit! Those were terrific times! I did have the opportunity to run in to Rod occasionally as adults. He was always happy to reconnect and talk about our growing up years in Stonewall. I was very saddened to hear of his passing and extend condolences to his family from myself and my brother Cameron. Take care.... - Posted by: Alison Lecuyer (Ballantyne) (childhood neighbour) on: Nov 10, 2020

  • This is horrible news. Denise and children; Linda, Gwen and families, I am so sorry for this dreadful loss. Although I never got to see Rod in these last few years, I have so many memories of our crazy, fun times in years past that I will always cherish. We remained friends since the mid-seventies and my world is a lesser place without him in it. Paul Frain. (Friend.) - Posted by: Paul Frain. (Friend.) on: Nov 10, 2020
